Chihuahua, Chih.- The city of Chihuahua closed the month of September with a preliminary report of 29 homicides, which represents the second lowest figure of the year; The least violent month was March, with 27, according to statistics from the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE).
Despite this decrease in the capital, the state expects September to end with a figure of 184 murders, tying with January as the second highest of the year, only below the 195 homicides recorded in July.
From January to September 2023, the capital recorded a total of 305 crimes, while in the same period this year the figure rises to 331, which represents an increase of 8%.
The distribution of homicides in the entity is as follows: 29 in Chihuahua, 76 in Ciudad Juárez, 15 in Cuauhtémoc, 1 in Parral and 63 in other locations.
The most significant events in September include a confrontation on the 9th in Ojinaga, Coyame and Manuel Benavides, which resulted in six deaths and one injury.
On September 16, a confrontation in Coronado between members of “Los Salgueiros” and “La Línea” left 8 dead at the scene, including the criminal leader known as “El Cuatro.”
Hours later, sources from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that one person died in the hospital after being injured in the confrontation in Villa Coronado, increasing the total number of deaths related to this incident to 9.
Furthermore, on September 20, the state attorney general, César Jáuregui, confirmed the discovery of 11 bodies in Ojinaga, showing signs of torture and two of them decapitated, along with a message attributed to “La Línea.”
