Former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has become the 14th Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance. This is reported by Reuters.
“Mark Rutte took up the post of NATO Secretary General, replacing Jens Stoltenberg, who held this post for a record 10 years,” the agency reports.
The official ceremony of transferring powers to Rutte took place at the alliance headquarters at a special meeting of the North Atlantic Council in Brussels.
On September 27, Stoltenberg summed up his 10-year tenure as head of the North Atlantic Alliance. He added that the military bloc has not only become stronger, but also grown, with four countries – Montenegro, North Macedonia, Finland and Sweden – joining the bloc, and Ukraine “is closer than ever to NATO.”
