According to the editorial staff of Digital Foundry, PS5 Pro lays an excellent foundation for PlayStation 6indicating a technological path that Sony could successfully propose again when the time comes to design its next console.
Richard Leadbetter and his colleagues imagine that PS6 will retain all the updates introduced with PS5 Pro and will push further forward, thus maintaining the principle of improving backward compatibility which has characterized Sony platforms for a couple of generations now, mid-gen upgrades included.
As regards the price factorDigital Foundry is aware that the €799 requested by the company may not seem like a brilliant idea, but the technical specifications somehow justify this choice, especially as regards the chips dedicated to machine learning.
PS6 will follow the same path
Defined as a fantastic console by the No Man’s Sky engine programmer, PS5 Pro has therefore consolidated a technical path that Sony will certainly resume for the design of PlayStation 6, clearly dealing with the current market and chip situation.
While not being able to literally double the size of the GPU as happened in the days of PS4 Pro, the Japanese company focuses on the advantages guaranteed by artificial intelligence to achieve similar results in visual and performance terms, and the PC scene has already proven that this is possible.
In fact, Digital Foundry went so far as to declare that PS5 Pro represents an absolutely necessary step to set up the technical evolution that PlayStation 6 aspires to, given that it will allow developers to master tools such as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution and make the best use of them.
