Number of intentional deaths in August is the lowest since 2001; cases of feminicide, robberies and thefts also fell
The State of São Paulo recorded, in August, the lowest rate of robberies since 2001. According to data released this Monday (September 30, 2024) by SSP-SP (São Paulo Public Security Secretariat), there were 196 intentional homicides – 8 fewer than in August 2023.
According to the organization, this was the first time that the index was below 200 cases in the month of August in São Paulo, since the beginning of the historical series, in 2001. The number of rapes and cases of femicide also fell – 4.9% and 15.8%, respectively.
The State also recorded a drop in the number of vehicle thefts, cargo thefts and thefts in the last 12 months. Here are the variations:
- vehicle theft: drop of 15%;
- cargo theft: drop of 21.8%; and
- thefts in general: drop of 5.5%.
Robbery (robbery followed by death) remained stable. There were 9 occurrences in August, the same number as in 2023.
