Moscow State University: September in Moscow became the hottest and sunniest since 1780
Last September in Moscow was the hottest and sunniest since the end of the 18th century. The capital reports new weather records press service Moscow State University named after. M.V. Lomonosov.
According to Mikhail Lokoshchenko, leading researcher at the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, Faculty of Geography, Moscow State University, this month the average temperature was 17.9 degrees – this figure is 5.7 degrees higher than the climate norm. Previously, the title of the hottest belonged to September 1847, when the thermometer stood at 17 degrees.
In terms of precipitation, September 2024 was one of the three driest in the history of meteorological observations, which began in 1780, experts shared. According to weather data, the amount of precipitation did not exceed 9.6 millimeters. In the past, similar rainfall deficits were observed in 1949 and 1882.
In addition, the duration of sunshine this September was also a record – this year it amounted to 264 hours compared to the usual value of 146 hours.
