Kris Kristoffersonlegendary country music star and American actor of Swedish origins, has died at the age of 88.
According to what the portal reports VarietyKristofferson died on Saturday, September 28 at his home in Maui, Hawaii. His family officially confirmed Kristofferson’s death via a joint statement written on behalf of his wife Lisatogether with his eight children and seven grandchildren:
It is with great sadness that we share the news that our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28th at home. We are all so lucky for the time we spent with him. Thank you for loving him all these years. When you see a rainbow, know that it is smiling at us all.
Also Kyle YoungCEO of Country Music Hall of Fame and Museumadded a statement on the matter:
Kris Kristofferson deeply believed that creativity is God-given and that those who ignore or deviate from such a sacred gift are doomed to failure and unhappiness. He preached that a life of the mind gives voice to the soul, and then created a body of work that gave voice not only to his soul, but to ours as well.
Kristofferson is mostly known for his achievements in country music. He has created numerous hit songs such as For the Good Times by Ray Price, Sunday Morning Coming Down by Johnny Cash and Help Me Make It Through the Night by Sammi Smith. With his then wife Rita Coolidgethe musician won two Grammys for the duets and a third for the song Help Me Make It Through the Night. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
As a film actor, Kristofferson made his film debut Escape from Hollywood of 1972, and won a Golden Globe for his work in A Star Is Born of 1976, in which he starred together with Barbra Streisand. For Marvel fans, Kristofferson is recognized for his role as Abraham Whistler in the trilogy of Blades dedicated to the vampire hunter of the same name, played in the three films by Wesley Snipes (among other actors who entered the Guinness Book of Records this year thanks to the character of Blade).
