Yesterday September 29th, the franchise Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater celebrated the 25th anniversary of the launch of the first chapter, which arrived on PS1 way back in 1999. For the occasion, Tony Hawk published a video on his Instagram account accompanied by a message confirming that the “series has a future”therefore confirming the arrival of new games.
At the end of the post, the legendary skater states: “Thanks to Activision, Neversoft (RIP) to all of you who played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in those formative years. I can’t say any more about the future of the series, but there will be a future …”.
A new game or a collection of remakes?
At this point all that remains is to wait for news from Activision Blizzard, with the hope that it won’t take too long. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, the last (and disappointing) chapter of the main series, dates back to 2015, while in 2020 the celebrated remake collection Pro Skater 1 + 2 arrived on consoles and PC.
According to a report from DidYouKnowGaming based on a source within Blizzard Albany (formerly known as Vicarious Vision), the studio had proposed a pitch for remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skating 3 + 4, given the excellent reception for remakes of the first two games. However, Activision Blizzard preferred to divert the studio’s resources and personnel to support the development of the Call of Duty series.
What are your hopes for the future of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater? Would you like to see a new game or a remake of the third and fourth chapters? Let us know in the comments.
