Juarez City.– A new space for citizens, where there are tables and shadows on a painted floor, as well as 25 murals, is now part of the landscape of the city center.
One of the murals of the project “El Centro se paints itself”, located in the Josué ‘Neri’ Santos gym, and the traffic calming project “Sendas del Desierto” in front of the old Municipal Presidency, were inaugurated yesterday morning by municipal authorities. The “Cradle of Champions” mural was created by Edgar Flores “Saner” and is located at the back of the gym, overlooking Mariscal Street. This work forms and 24 others were captured in the first painting of the city, stated the coordinator of the Municipality’s Foundational Center, Daniela González Lara. Through the “The Center paints itself” program, 21 local muralists and four external ones painted 25 murals in various places in the city’s first square, stated González Lara. One of the muralists who participated in the project, Ana Infante, explained that her mural is of migrants and is located in María Martínez and Gabino Berrera. “I chose that space because in reality the objective of this project is the rehabilitation of public spaces and the façade was in very poor condition and the mural completely gave it another life,” he commented. Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar explained that this project arose from a controversy over the murals that were painted on the Independencia Bypass. A few blocks from the “Cradle of Champions” mural, the “Sendas del Desierto” traffic pacification space was inaugurated, on Vicente Guerrero Avenue and Ignacio Mariscal Street, in front of the Municipal Arts Center. The space was intervened with tactical urbanism, so the floor of Mariscal Street was painted with emblematic plants of the city; In addition, table benches and shades were placed. The objective is for this section to be used as a coexistence space for visitors to the Central area, it was reported. The project was sponsored by the Bloomberg Foundation of the United States and executed by the Coordination of Advisors in collaboration with the Placemaking Foundation and other agencies.
