Hezbollah supporters clashed with police this Sunday (29) in Karachi, Pakistan’s most populous city, during demonstrations prompted by the death of the leader of the Lebanese terrorist group, Hassan Nasrallah, in an attack carried out by Israel in Beirut on Friday ( 27).
According to Reuters, local authorities reported that protesters threw stones and tried to reach the local US consulate, but were stopped by the police, who used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The protest participants tried to reach areas beyond the cordons that limited access, disregarding what had been previously agreed with the demonstration organizers, the police said.
Hezbollah supporters chanted “Death to America” and carried posters and banners with symbols of the terrorist group and images of Nasrallah. The pro-Iran Shia political party Majlis Wahadatul Muslimeen organized the protest.
On Saturday (28), hundreds of Hezbollah supporters had attempted to invade the United States Embassy in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, also in protest over the death of Nasrallah, but were repelled by security forces in front of the Green Zone gate, where diplomatic representation remains.
