The Israeli Army announced that it had launched this Sunday (29) a “large-scale” operation against the Houthi rebels in the port city of Hodeida, in western Yemen, a day after the terrorists claimed responsibility for launching a ballistic missile against Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
The news agency Sabalinked to the Houthis, briefly reported that “Israeli aggression is targeting the city of Hodeida”, specifically the ports of Hodeida and Ras Isa, the most important in Yemen, as well as two power plants.
The Israeli Army said in a statement that “dozens of Air Force aircraft, including fighters and refueling and intelligence aircraft, attacked military targets of the Houthi terrorist regime in the areas of Ras Isa and Hodeida in Yemen”, where they targeted “power plants and seaports, used to import oil”.
“Through the attacked infrastructures and ports, the Houthi regime transfers Iranian weapons to the region and supplies for military needs and therefore also oil. The attack was carried out in response to the latest attacks carried out by the Houthis against the State of Israel”, added the Israeli army.
In this sense, the military statement also highlighted that terrorists have been operating “under the direction and financing of Iran and in cooperation with Iraqi militias, to harm the State of Israel, undermine regional order and disrupt global freedom of navigation.”
The Israeli Army said it was “determined to act and harm anyone who poses a threat to the citizens of Israel and at any distance necessary”, given that Yemen is located around 1,800 kilometers from the country.
The Houthis on Saturday claimed responsibility for launching a ballistic missile at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport “during the arrival of the criminal Benjamin Netanyahu”, Prime Minister of Israel.
Tensions have risen in the Middle East following the assassination last Friday of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli attack in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
This is not the first time that Israel has attacked Yemen, as last July it also launched an attack against the port of Hodeida, hitting more than two dozen oil storage tanks, as well as a power station.
Since November last year, the Houthis have been attacking Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea, as well as launching projectiles at Israel, some of which managed to reach the country.
