The Venezuelan NGO Secure Connection denounced this Saturday (28), through a digital rights monitoring initiative, the blocking of the social network TikTok in the country.
According to the complaint, published on X, the measure began to be applied at 9am (local time, 10am in Brasília) on Saturday, both by private and public operators.
“CANTV, Inter, NetUno, Digitel, Movistar, Airtek and Thundernet started blocking @TikTok ”, stated the VE Sin Filtro initiative, which is part of the NGO Conexión Segura.
According to the website Cocuyo Effectthis was the second social network blocked in the country after the results of the presidential elections on July 28, denounced by a new fraud by Nicolás Maduro.
At the beginning of August, the Chavista dictatorship announced the blocking of Elon Musk’s X for a period of 10 days, however the measure was extended indefinitely and will be in effect for two months in the coming days.
According to the initiative See Without Filter“the social network TikTok is inaccessible on the cell phone application and on the computer by the aforementioned suppliers. At Airtek, only the website is blocked so far,” the NGO wrote.
In the same period in which access to X was prohibited in Venezuela, Maduro accused the social networks Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp of being behind attempts to destabilize the country.
“I accuse TikTok and I accuse Instagram of responsibility for installing hate to divide Venezuelans, to seek a massacre and a division of Venezuela. To bring fascism to Venezuela. Cyberfascist and criminal coup d’état”, stated the dictator.
