This Sunday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will spend his last night in the National Palace.
He will do so upon returning from what will also be the last tour of the six-year term, in which he will inaugurate one more station of the Mayan Train, in Chetumal, Quintana Roo.
With the move practically ready, the federal President will rest in the apartment located inside the historic building, where he lived since December 2018. It is a 300 square meter apartment, with two bedrooms, a study, living room, kitchen and bathroom, which – as of October 1st – will be occupied by the new President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Tomorrow, Monday, at 6:00 a.m., López Obrador will lead his last meeting of the Security Cabinet and, starting at 7:00 a.m., he will offer his last morning conference.
As he himself announced, on this occasion he will not answer questions. The man from Tabasco plans to deliver a closing message for the six-year term, raffle off his watch and listen to the Veracruz musicians that he will invite to the Treasury Hall. Subsequently, the head of the federal Executive will unveil his portrait in the Gallery of Presidents. It is an oil painting in which the President appears standing, in front of the central balcony of the Palace, with a staff of command and a Zócalo full of people behind him. López Obrador reported that, later, he will participate in a gathering with media representatives and YouTubers who will attend the conference. In the afternoon, he has scheduled a private lunch that could be attended by his Brazilian counterparts, Inacio Lula Da Silva; from Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and from Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel. And, because the future President plans to offer a dinner to the Heads of State and Leaders who will attend her inauguration, López Obrador could leave the National Palace in the afternoon. The Tabasco native will possibly move to his former private home, located in the Tlalpan delegation, and it will be from there that he will depart, on the morning of Tuesday, October 1, heading to the Chamber of Deputies, to participate in the Ceremony of Transmission of Executive Power, in which he will hand over the Presidential Band to his successor.
