The Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing at Liwa College, Professor Raed Abdullah Abu Zuaiter, was selected on the list of the prestigious Stanford University in the United States of America, which includes the most prominent 2% of scientists in the world for the year 2024 in the field of artificial intelligence and image processing.
This achievement places Liwa College among the leading educational institutions in the UAE in terms of the number of researchers listed in the top 2% globally.
Professor Muhammad Diaf, President of Liwa College, said that this high classification reflects the distinguished contributions of the college’s faculty members and their important contribution to enhancing scientific knowledge at the global level, and also confirms the college’s firm commitment to developing scientific research and innovation.
Stanford’s ranking was based on a rigorous evaluation based on a set of scientific indicators, including global publication volume, the H-Index, total scientific citations (including self-citations), and the modified HM co-authorship index.
In preparing its list, Stanford University relied on the Scopus database of the international publishing house Elsevier, and the list included 22 scientific fields and 174 subspecialties, highlighting researchers who have made a significant impact in the global scientific community.
Professor Hani Al-Qadi, Vice President of Liwa College for Academic Affairs, stated that Professor Raed Abu Zuaiter holds a doctorate in computer engineering in 1993 from the United States of America, specializing in artificial intelligence and machine learning, and has worked in several universities and research centers in the United States, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. He has more than 150 scientific papers in prestigious international journals and conferences.
Professor Abu Zuaiter worked at the Sorbonne University Research Center in Abu Dhabi as a principal researcher within the Chair of Excellence project funded by the French company “Tails”, where he supervised master’s and doctoral students and worked in cooperation with researchers from France and local and regional universities to develop systems for detecting, verifying, distinguishing and following the paths of flying drones. Using artificial intelligence systems for peaceful purposes that serve society in marching applications in all areas of life.
Professor Abu Zuaiter is also working on research into artificial intelligence applications in other fields, such as investigating the beginning of the Hijri month based on the movement of the moon and its images to help determine the beginning of religious occasions, and other applications in discovering incorrect data in computer networks, and many other artificial intelligence applications that serve society and business in general. .
