Deserted a former small apartment building is about to be completely destroyed by fire in the Raunistula area of Turku.
The on-duty fire marshal of the rescue service of Varsinais-Suomen Sebastian Holm three walls of the building have collapsed. The rescue service is there to do post-extinguishing and clearing work, which is expected to take all day Sunday, Holm says.
The burning building is located on Virusmäentie.
Holm does not comment on where the fire may have started or whether it caused personal injuries.
Emergency services in the morning, a little before 9:30 a.m., issued a danger notice to Turku in the areas of Raunistula, Halisten and Ylioppilaskylä due to the health-threatening smoke rising from the fire. People in the area are advised to stay indoors and close the ventilation.
Holm said a little before ten o’clock that the fire is still causing smoke damage.
The rescue service was alerted to the fire shortly before 7:30 on Sunday morning. 19 emergency services units were dispatched to the scene.
