After the official opening, the Future of Food Summit kicked off with an opening session on food security and climate change, where participants discussed how to enhance global access to food and achieve equality..
Speaking at the summit’s panel discussion, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative Abdelhakim Elwaer noted that 713-757 million people were affected by food insecurity in 2024, or 1 in 11 people worldwide, and 1 in 5 people in Africa. “The persistence of hunger and food insecurity, particularly in the Near East and North Africa, requires concerted efforts to ensure that we are on track to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger,” he said.“
