Parliament|The opposition challenged the prime minister over Finland’s decision to stay out of the equality coalition related to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Prime minister Petteri Orpo (kok) answered the criticism of the opposition in the parliament on Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavion (ps) of the operation.
In particular, Sdp demanded Orpo and the government to cancel Tavio’s decision to exclude Finland from the equality coalition related to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
President Alexander Stubb had on Monday criticized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the lack of information flow. He said it was a “mistake” that information about Tavio’s decision had not reached the president.
Orpo did not promise in the parliament that Finland would change Tavio’s decision. He repeated that the “individual decision” will not change Finland’s line in supporting Ukraine.
“Minister Tavio made the decision within his own authority. I have agreed, after discussing with the president of the republic, that we will go over this issue and in general the line of Finland’s foreign policy in this matter in tp-utva”, the prime minister said.
Sdp’s representatives said they were disappointed with Orpo’s response.
Member of Parliament of the Coalition Ben Zyskowicz said in his own speech that he was surprised by the criticism directed at Orpo’s answer.
“What do you think will come out of that tp utva? A pat on the head for Minister Tavio? It will surely come out that Finland’s foreign policy line holds in this matter as well,” said Zyskowicz.
Joint meetings of the government’s foreign and security policy ministerial committee and the president of the republic are called tp-utva.
Minister Tavio wrote in the message service X that he had a conversation with President Stubb in New York. Tavio said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “is going through the procedures related to the flow of information for the future”.
