The global economy is going through a turning point full of uncertainty. Most central banks around the world have gone from fighting inflation to trying to avoid a recession, in a kind of economic soft landing that is difficult to achieve. This situation occurs in an unstable world, in which the geopolitical agenda remains full of conflicts, and in an election year that has seen numerous changes of government around the world and in which the main event of the presidential elections in the United States is still to come. In this turbulent and polarized world, but also full of opportunities, EL PAÍS and the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce are holding the forum Latin America, the United States and Spain in the global economy, which will once again highlight the importance of transatlantic ties.
The event, which will be held on Tuesday 24 September in New York in parallel with the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), will be attended by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, among a large panel of authorities and businessmen.
The event is organized by EL PAÍS and the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by DLA Piper, Iberia, Inditex, Indra, NTT Data and Total Protect in collaboration with the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI). The event can be followed live on the EL PAÍS website, from 8:15 a.m. New York time (2:15 p.m. Spanish peninsular time) until approximately 1:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. in mainland Spain).
Joseph Oughourlian, president of Prisa, the publishing group of EL PAÍS, and Marco Antonio Achón, president of the Spain-United States Chamber of Commerce, are in charge of giving the welcoming remarks. The opening speech is given by Minister Albares, after which Marco Antonio Achón has a conversation with the CEO of the ACS group, Juan Santamaría, about the importance of infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth.
Alicia Montalvo, CAF’s Climate Action and Positive Biodiversity Manager; Teresa Parejo, Iberia’s Sustainability Director; Javier Treviño, Walmart’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Mexico and Central America, and María de los Ángeles Useche, Commercial Director of Total Protect, participate in a debate on sustainability trends moderated by Ricardo Martínez, Sustainability and Climate Risk Leader at Deloitte Risk & Financial Advisory.
