Painting up for auction, charges collapse: Sgarbi acquitted in Rome along with his partner
The GUP of Rome has ordered the dismissal of the case against the former Undersecretary for Culture Victor Sgarbi and for the companion Sabrina Colle as part of the investigation into an alleged failure to pay debts with the Revenue Agency for a total of approximately 715 thousand euros. The judge acquitted Sgarbi with the formula ‘because the fact does not exist’.
The Rome prosecutor’s office had requested that the critic, defended by lawyers, be sent to trial Giampaolo Cicconi And Manuel Varesiand for Colle, defended by the lawyer Joseph Iannaccone. The dispute was related to Article 11 of the Tax Crimes Act on fraudulent evasion of tax payments. The case dates back to October 2020 and also concerned the purchase at auction of a painting in which Sgarbi’s partner appeared as the buyer.
