Perugia Investigation: Prosecutor’s Office Files Documents, Hearing Postponed 12/11
The hearing before the Review Court will resume on November 12th for the appeal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Perugia against the rejection of the request for house arrest for the former deputy prosecutor of the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, Antonio Laudati, and for the financier Pasquale Striano, in the context of the investigation into the alleged dossiers. The decision was taken in light of the filing of new investigative documents by the office headed by Raffaele Cantone, on which the judges have reserved. The documents, it is learned, are related to further investigations and in particular to numerous computer accesses. Accesses, according to the prosecution, carried out by Lieutenant Striano. As regards the position of Praise be to you, these would be in-depth investigations relating to the contested tampering with evidence. In the next hearing the judges will lift the reservations on the acquisition of the documents that the defense opposed because they consider them unusable.
Perugia Investigation: Anti-Mafia Prosecutor’s Note Filed
“The office has filed, as an additional investigative activity, two notes from the Financial Police Unit relating to numerous further accesses to public databases deemed unauthorised and therefore abusive.as well as a note sent by the national anti-mafia prosecutor and requested its acquisition in order to strengthen the proposed appeal, relating only to the profile of precautionary needs”. Thus the chief prosecutor of Perugia, Raffaele Cantone, at the conclusion of the hearing against the rejection of the request for house arrest for the former deputy prosecutor of the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, Antonio Laudati, and for the financier Pasquale Striano, in the context of the “well-known proceeding regarding the unauthorized access to public databases, including the Sidda Sidna database of the DNA and the Siva database relating to reports of suspicious transactions”.
“The defense of the defendants opposed the acquisition, considering the filing of supplementary investigation documents to be irregular.. The court, at the end of the illustration of the issues indicated, ordered the postponement to November 12 and reserved the right to decide on the defence’s exceptions and on the precautionary appeal” concluded Cantone.
Perugia Investigation: Striano’s Defense, Documents on Accesses from the Prosecutor’s Office
“The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a significant amount of documents and we, as the defense, have opposed them. There is talk of a great many accesses, more than double those already contested, I think thousands, but we need to see the documents”. This was stated by the lawyer Massimo Clemente, defender of the lieutenant of the Finance Police, Pasquale Striano at the end of the hearing at the Court of Appeal of Perugia for the opposition to the rejection of the request for house arrest for the former deputy prosecutor of the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, Antonio Laudati, and for the former financier Pasquale Striano, in the context of the investigation into the alleged dossiers. “These are very high numbers, more than there were already many” he specified. On the possibility of making spontaneous statements “we are evaluating whether to do so, we have not yet made a decision” he concluded.
Perugia Investigation: Laudati’s Defense, Perhaps Spontaneous Declarations
“The climate was constructive, we will evaluate whether to have Laudati make spontaneous statements”. This was stated by the lawyer Andrea Castaldo, defender of the former deputy prosecutor of the National Anti-Mafia Directorate, Antonio Laudati, at the end of the hearing at the Review Court of Perugia for the opposition to the rejection of the request for house arrest for Laudati and the financier Pasquale Striano, in the context of the investigation into the alleged dossiers. “The Perugia Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed a series of documents relating to new investigations, two reports from the Guardia di Finanza and other documentation that obviously we do not know and did not know. The reasons for these productions have been explained” he explained further.
“We believed that these were non-usable documents and therefore should not be included in the file and not evaluated. We therefore raised the objection of the impossibility of acquiring this documentation. The court has reserved its decision and will have to decide whether to accept these documents,” he continued. As for Laudati, “according to what has been said, there is only one profile of investigation relating to something we already knew and which would concern one of the profiles that in the appeal of the Prosecutor’s Office is related to the contamination of evidence,” added the lawyer. “The climate is a constructive one and we will evaluate whether it is appropriate for Laudati to release spontaneous statements in the next hearing,” reiterated Cataldo, noting that “we opposed the production of these documents because they concern the merits of the case while the court must decide only on the precautionary needs. Let’s see how it decides.”
