Candidate Pablo Marçal (PRTB) defended the management of the pandemic by the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). “The pandemic was handled with a lot of politicization. An arm wrestling match,” said the former coach.
In a joint effort, the influencer and candidate Marina Helena (Novo) criticized social isolation and vaccines. Both took the opportunity to criticize the Lula (PT) government regarding vaccines and fires. “The federal government let R$250 million expire and no one is shocked by this. What is really happening with dengue fever in Brazil, it seems that no one is worried about it,” said Marçal, who did not clarify where he got this information from.
“The question that was asked was already directed at Bolsonaro. He is not here to defend himself, but I imagine that everything he did was an attempt to get it right,” said Marçal. “It takes 14 years to validate a vaccine. We immunized a worldwide herd in just a few weeks,” he continued.
The former coach’s claim is not true. Technology to combat Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) has been in the works since 2003, when the first global outbreak involving a coronavirus occurred. That’s just over 20 years ago.
In Brazil, there have been more than 700,000 deaths from Covid-19. The first person was vaccinated in Brazil in January 2021, almost a year after the start of the pandemic.
