Pentagon: US sending additional troops to Middle East
The US administration is sending additional troops to the Middle East due to rising tensions in the region, Pentagon press secretary Patrick Ryder announced, reports TASS.
“In light of rising tensions in the Middle East and out of an abundance of caution, we are sending a small additional contingent of U.S. troops to bolster our forces already in the region,” he said.
A US defence official declined to disclose their numbers or other details for security reasons.
Earlier, Politico reported, citing sources, that US President Joe Biden wanted to go down in history as a “peacemaker” by concluding a deal to end the fire and return hostages in the Gaza Strip. According to the publication, Biden told his national security advisers that concluding a deal on Gaza was his top foreign policy priority for the rest of his term.
