The First Lady was accompanied by 5 advisors to the games in Paris; the biggest expense was on airfare
The trip of First Lady Rosângela da Silva, Janja, to the Paris Olympics cost the federal government at least R$236,000. She was accompanied by a delegation of at least 5 advisors who were responsible for assisting and recording Janja’s commitments. The information was obtained by S.Paulo Newspaper through the LAI (Access to Information Law).
The trip took place between July 25th and 29th. The biggest expense was on airfare, the round trip for the entourage costing R$147,070. The First Lady’s tickets alone cost R$ 83,616. Spending on interpreters was the 2nd highest, at R$46,586.
Security costs were not disclosed, as according to the Planalto Palace, these expenses are reserved and cannot be disclosed.
The expenses for food and transportation for the delegation were R$41,303. In other words, R$8,260 per advisor for the duration of the trip. This amount does not include Janja’s expenses, as she does not receive federal funds for these types of expenses.
The lowest cost was travel insurance, with R$1,040.52 spent.
According to the government, there were no accommodation costs. The First Lady and the staff were housed at the Brazilian embassy in the French capital.
On Friday (20.Sep), the TCU (Federal Court of Auditors) archived the request that asked for an investigation into the expenses of Janja and her entourage during the trip. According to the 1st Chamber of the Court of Auditors, there is no “sufficient evidence for the court to act in the case”.
