A 90-year-old landfill has been reclaimed in Kineshma, Ivanovo Region
In Kineshma, Ivanovo Region, the reclamation of a landfill has been completed. This reported on the city administration website.
The landfill is located in the Sokolniki microdistrict. It was formed in 1930 and operated until 2019. Household and industrial waste of hazard classes IV (flammable solids and spontaneously combustible substances) and V (practically safe substances) were brought to the site. The landfill area reached almost one and a half hectares, on which over 740 thousand cubic meters of garbage accumulated. The thickness of the landfill masses was 6-14 meters.
The landfill had a negative impact on the environment and the lives of the local population, and fires regularly occurred on its territory. In order to eliminate the dump, it was included in the national project “Ecology” and the federal program “Clean Country”, and the governor of the Ivanovo region Stanislav Voskresensky took special control over the issue of reclamation. More than 400 million rubles were allocated to eliminate the Kineshma landfill.
As part of the reclamation, a drainage system was installed around the landfill. Wells with biofilters were installed on the territory of the landfill, which should bring the gas accumulating in the waste to the surface. The site itself was finally covered with soil and seeded with lawn grass.
By the end of 2030, Russia plans to eliminate dozens of ecologically hazardous facilities.
