Naples, Saviano building collapses: grandmother’s body also recovered
The lifeless body of the grandmother, the last of the missing in the collapse of the house in Saviano (Naples) caused yesterday morning at 7 by an explosion due to a probable gas leak, was recovered by the Usar firefighters’ teams. After the rescue operations, the firefighters’ intervention continues with the securing of the affected area. The final toll of the tragedy is 4 dead (two children aged 4 and 6, their mother and grandmother) and 2 injured (a 2-year-old child and his father).
“There are no words, I have none – wrote the mayor of Saviano, Vincenzo Simonelli, in a post on social media last night – hoping, with every stone lifted, to hear a thread of voice, a breath, was devastating. In the hell of Via Tappia Furignano, the only consolation we had was the immense, tireless chain of solidarity of those who participated in the rescue efforts. I thank them all, from the first to the last: they never stopped, we never stopped”. In the meantime, The Nola Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation for multiple manslaughterwith the investigations entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna Group. Everything will focus on the causes of the gas leak and the subsequent explosion.
