Criminal suspicions|The police are finishing the preliminary investigation of the suspected homicide that happened in 2012. The case will move to prosecution at the end of September.
Police is finishing the one that disappeared in 2012 Minna Suominen preliminary investigation of the case, the Southwest Finland police say in their press release. The case has been investigated as a homicide.
The police suspect that Suominen was the victim of a homicide on January 21, 2012, at or immediately after three o’clock in the morning in an apartment in Turku and in the stairwell in front of it.
A woman who was over 20 years old at the time of the events is suspected of the crime, says the crime commissioner Tuomas Kuure In a press release from the Police Department of Southwest Finland.
The woman has been imprisoned on suspicion of a crime in June 2012. The suspect has not been imprisoned during the last active preliminary investigation.
Police suspects that the victim was subjected to physical violence, as a result of which he died. The device is suspected to have been a bladed weapon.
“The way of doing things is associated with brutality and impulsiveness. Due to the brutality, the investigation also considered the label murder. Based on the overall consideration, however, it was decided to keep the title as a kill”, says Kuure in the press release.
According to the police, at the time of the crime, in addition to Suominen and the suspect woman, there was a man who lived in the apartment in question. The man died two days after the murder. No crime is suspected in his death.
The preliminary investigation into the murder is in the final stages and will move to the prosecution at the end of September, the police say in the press release. There is no deadline for filing charges.
Police took the case back for preliminary investigation at the end of August 2023.
Suominen’s body has never been found.
In November 2023, the police asked citizens for information about a possible bridge where Suominen’s body would have been disposed of. The police received more than 200 messages and tips about a possible bridge.
The authorities searched the waterways, but they did not find anything that could be connected to the crime under investigation. The search was also assisted by the Defense Forces, Kuure says in the press release.
