Health care|Pharmacies are currently fighting for their living space, because the government wants to release medicines for sale in places other than pharmacies.
Association of Pharmacists according to the report published on Monday, the operation of pharmacies brings 855 million euros in savings to welfare areas.
Savings come, among other things, from the fact that people do not have to go all the way to the doctor, when help comes from a visit to the pharmacy.
The million estimate is the result of a report by Esior Oy, a company that conducts impact studies.
According to the report, the most savings, i.e. more than 500 million euros, comes from self-care advice, i.e. the fact that the trained pharmacy staff guides the customer in medication and self-care so that the customer can avoid a visit to the doctor.
The study estimates that thanks to pharmacies, customers save a total of around 95 million euros per year in customer fees for public health services.
Pharmacies are currently fighting for their living conditions, which may be one of the reasons behind the report emphasizing cost savings and the importance of counseling.
Current Petteri Orpon The (kok) government wants to release some of the most commonly used over-the-counter medicines for sale in places other than pharmacies. The government program does not take a position on how, for example, a retail store would then advise the customer on the use of self-medication.
The government program also lists several other reforms concerning pharmacies. The board is investigating, among other things, the practice of pharmacy operations also in the form of a limited company.
In May, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health appointed a group to investigate pharmacy finances and regulation. It will receive the first proposals at the end of this year, and the whole should be ready by the end of 2025.
The Union of Pharmacists hopes that welfare areas would make more use of pharmacies than at present, for example, so that the premises of the pharmacy would be used, for example, for remote healthcare receptions.
Association of Pharmacists the report also carried out a survey aimed at doctors. Doctors estimate that, thanks to the pharmaceutical work of pharmacies, local and remote reception visits by primary care nurses and doctors are avoided in particular.
Without pharmacists’ advice, the number of primary care doctor visits would increase by about 20 percent, according to doctors’ estimates. According to doctors’ estimates, emergency room visits would also increase without the work done by pharmacies.
The majority, i.e. 70 percent, of the doctors who responded to the survey would consider the medicines only sold in pharmacies. 127 doctors answered the survey.
