If difficulties arise, the manned missions would be postponed for another two years. Earlier this month, Musk had already stated that the first flights to Mars would start in two years, “when the next transfer window between Earth and Mars opens.”
Musk, known for his ever-changing schedules, wants to develop Starship, a reliable spacecraft that will carry people and cargo to the moon and later to Mars.
