“Forza Italia is against any tax on extra profits. It would damage the local banks and create uncertainty on the markets to the detriment of Italy. Let’s create a table with the banks to agree on useful solutions for public finances”. This is what the secretary of Forza Italia, Antonio Tajani, wrote on X.
Tajani also spoke about it today in the Corriere della Sera: “We have always said no to taxes imposed from above. If we can then reach an agreement with the banks so that they provide help, a contribution to the state coffers, that’s another thing. A generalized tax would end up hitting the popular and cooperative credit banks, which provide loans to citizens and must be defended”.
“Today, Antonio Tajani reiterated his opposition to a new tax on the extra profits of banks and other organizations in the sector because it would damage the credibility of the country and especially the small entities in the territory, such as cooperative and popular banks. Taxes with retroactive effect because they are not provided for by the rules would determine negative reactions from the markets”, says Paolo Barelli, president of the Forza Italia deputies.
“As Antonio Tajani has further indicated with extreme clarity – observes the Forza Italia MP – we can evaluate measures agreed with the banking system which is certainly interested in the stability and growth of our country. For this reason we will not vote for any form of further taxation imposed from above, as some media have feared. On the current state of health of public accounts, to which Forza Italia pays great attention, we await the data from Istat which would appear to be a positive signal”.
