Skateboarding|Sirviö skated to the podium at the X Games in Japan.
Only 13 years old Heili Sirviö was in great form at the prestigious X Games in Chiba, Japan on Sunday.
Sirviö took bronze in skateboarding Park with 80.00 points. The performance entitling to the prize ball was already seen in the first run. He was on the verge of a great performance on his second attempt as well, but fell.
The fall did not spoil the atmosphere.
“It’s been really great and encouraging here. The best skaters in the world are here, and I love being with my friends. I’m really happy”, commented Sirviö by phone after the race.
Sirviö became the youngest Olympic athlete in Finnish sports history at the Paris Olympics. He finished fifth in Paris. He considered the X Games quite similar to the Olympics, but the result was different.
“I am really, really proud. This is clearly my greatest achievement.”
“The medal is not too heavy, actually quite light. But really great.”
The victory was taken by Sirviö’s good friend, the Australian Olympic champion Arisa Trewwhose second and last attempt brought a top score of 91.66. Placed second Sky Brown.
Sirviö rejoiced at Trew’s victory and hugged him with a big smile on his lips after the performance that secured the victory.
“I’m really happy that we both got a medal. It’s crazy.”
The browser was the youngest participant in the competition. The X Games commentators repeatedly marveled at the young Finn’s skills and praised his performances.
Sirviö said that “quite a lot” of new tricks are in the works. They will be trained for at least a few more days in Japan.
“You still have to practice, then everyone will see them.”
