Conspirator Zenkovich, convicted in Belarus, asks Lukashenko for pardon
Yuri Zenkovich, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2022 for attempting to seize power in Belarus, apologized to Alexander Lukashenko and asked him for a pardon. This was reported by the Belarusian news agency BELTA.
“I apologize to Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko for what I tried to do. I would like to take this opportunity to ask him to pardon me and give me the opportunity to return to my family in the United States,” he said.
It is noted that the goal of the conspirators led by Zenkovich was to eliminate Lukashenko and detain other important Belarusian officials. According to the convicted man, they were planning to carry out a “classic military coup” in the country.
Earlier, Yuri Zenkovich reported that the Belarusian opposition planned to shoot down Lukashenko’s helicopter. According to him, the opposition held talks and sought funds in Ukraine, Israel and the United States.
