The Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said Thursday that Israel will suffer a “crushing response” to the explosions of beepers and walkie-talkies by Hezbollah members in Lebanon who killed 37 people and injured 3,200 others.

“There will soon be a crushing response from the Axis of Resistance and we will witness the destruction of this bloodthirsty and criminal regime,” Iran’s Revolutionary Guard commander-in-chief General Hossein Salami said in a message to the leader of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, Iran Nuances reported.
“These terrorist acts are undoubtedly the result of desperation and successive failures by the Zionist regime,” added the head of the powerful Iranian military force.
The so-called Axis of Resistance is an informal anti-Israel alliance led by Iran and consisting of Hezbollah, the Palestinian Hamas and Yemen’s Houthis, among others.

Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian, meanwhile, criticised Western countries, and the United States in particular, for their support for Israel following the pager explosions in Lebanon, which he described as the “height of criminality”.
The leader of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah expressed himself in the same vein, Hassan Nasrallah warned Israel on Thursday that it had crossed “all limits” with the recent explosions and promised a “difficult” response.
In his first speech since this week’s incidents, Nasrallah said the Jewish state will be the target of a “difficult reckoning” and warned that the clashes between the two countries have entered their “most precise, sensitive, profound and important” phase after almost a year of violence.
“On Tuesday, the Israeli enemy targeted thousands of beepers which were detonated at the same time. The enemy crossed all boundaries, laws and red lines in this operation, and did not care at all,” he said.

Meanwhile, The major Western capitals are using all their diplomatic muscles to prevent an open war between Israel and the Lebanese group.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he would call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the attack, and the French presidency reported on a telephone conversation between Macron and top Lebanese officials, led by Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

The United States, for its part, on Thursday urged the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah to end its “terrorist attacks” against Israel if it wants to reduce tension in the region.
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah “could stop terrorist attacks across Israel, and I assure you that if he did, we would stress to Israel the need to maintain calm on their side,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters. “The bottom line is that he did not stop these terrorist attacks.”
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, for her part, also called for avoiding further escalation. “I warn all parties against further escalation in the #MiddleEast. For months, we and all our partners have been holding talks, talking ad nauseam, striving for even the slightest step towards stability,” she wrote on X.
Algeria also requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on Friday, on behalf of the Arab states and at the request of Lebanon, to discuss the situation.
On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the explosions confirmed a “serious risk” of an escalation in the conflict and called for everything possible to be done to prevent it.
