Motorsport|Rallycross will be fueled in Iiti next summer.
Kymiring of the Hungarian CEO of the motor track Kornel Öryn according to the railway company wants to move step by step towards a larger number of international competitions.
On Thursday, Öry told a press conference held at the Hungarian Embassy in Helsinki that the Kymiring Motorsports Center will host the World Rallycross Series competition next summer. The contract with the World Series is 3+2 years.
In the event calendar of Kymiring, located in Iiti, there is one private event for the rest of the year, that’s all.
According to Öry, there probably won’t be any more World Rallycross-sized events next year. Instead, the track is scheduled to hold a few championships and other national-level events next year. In addition, the track may see, for example, the Baltic championships.
Öry talks about them as a basic activity.
“We have discussions with the promoters of motorcycling and car racing series about different level competitions for the future. In the coming months, we will know more, because these are affected by several things,” Öry told STT.
Rallycross World Series competitions are usually two-day events. The Euro RX competition is planned to be held at Kymiring on the same weekend as the World Rallycross.
Kymiring estimates the direct financial effects of the events to be more than three million euros.
“According to our plans, between 20,000 and 30,000 viewers,” Öry said about the audience target.
In the year Completed in 2019, the MotoGP race was supposed to be held on the track, among other things, but the event was canceled three times in a row.
KymiRing Oy, the track’s background company at the time, went bankrupt a year ago in the spring.
In February, Kymiring was transferred to Hungarian command when TRP Hungary became the owner, which manages the track through its company Finland Motorsport Circuit Holding.
“Currently, our goal is to breathe life into a project that previously went bankrupt. We are moving forward and planning for the future, and everything related to that has gone according to plan,” Öry answered a question about the current economic situation.
According to Öry, the current owners have not buried the idea of organizing a MotoGP race in Iiti, but fans of track motorcycling should not dream of the event, at least not in the very near future.
“Of course I hope it will happen one day. We’d like to organize it, but we can’t say when,” Öry said and reminded that it’s not just about our own desire.
International competition from the popular series’ events is intense.
June In the thoughts of Öry, who moved to Finland at the end of the year, next year, in addition to the basic racing activities, business events and track days would also be organized in the area.
“Probably in 2026 we can talk about larger-scale operation and maybe in 2027 full-scale operation,” Öry said and revealed that in his vision, Kymiring would also be in some kind of winter use.
In the summer, construction and renovation works were carried out in the Kymiring area, some of which were related to the track motorcycle SM series race held in August. It remained the only SM event of the summer at Kymiring.
