Mäntyharju|In the center of Mäntyharju, stones have been piled on the train track for three days in a row.
Pine ridge stones have been piled on the train track in the center for three days in a row, the police announced on Wednesday.
The most recent observation received by the police from the track control is from Wednesday evening at around 6:30 p.m., says the chief constable Toni Reinikainen from the Eastern Finland Police. At Mäntyharju, trains arriving from the north and south meet at that time.
Stones have also been placed on the track at Mäntyharju earlier in autumn and summer.
At worst stones can cause a big accident if the train derails due to them. In milder cases, both the track and the train may be damaged.
Stones can also cause delays if trains have to stop because of them or slow down because of the stones. According to Reinikainen, this has now happened at Mäntyharju, when the trains have been running slower than usual near the center.
Reinikainen says that he also discussed the subject with the principal of the local unified school. A Wilma message has been sent home about it from the school.
Reinikainen reminds that even if the perpetrator or perpetrators are under the age of 15 and are not criminally responsible for the acts, they are still liable for compensation.
“There must be no idea that father and mother will pay when I do,” he says.
