WHO: Moscow makes numerous efforts to maintain ecology
Moscow is making numerous efforts to maintain the environment and develop green infrastructure in the city. Batyr Berdyklychev, a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Russia, praised this, reports TASS.
Among the programs to support the environment, he noted the partial transition of public transport to electric energy, electric buses, the development of green infrastructure, bike paths and places for sports. Berdyklychev also drew attention to the introduction of new technologies for monitoring air quality and regulating traffic to ensure the safety of city residents.
Earlier, the capital’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced a significant reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions thanks to the introduction of electric buses. One electric bus reduces CO2 emissions by 60 tons per year; there are already more than 1.7 thousand such vehicles, the mayor noted.
