Washington.- A former CIA agent who worked at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison “for drugging and sexually abusing” more than two dozen women in several countries, the Department of Justice reported.
Brian Jeffrey Raymond, 48, worked at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico from August 2018 to May 2020.
In 2021, the US Federal Police (FBI) stated that the investigation into Raymond began in May 2020, when a naked woman screamed for help from the balcony of her home in Mexico City. According to the FBI, Raymond worked for many years at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and lived in numerous countries, including Peru. He is fluent in Spanish and Mandarin.
“When this predator was a government employee, he lured unsuspecting women into his government-rented home and drugged them,” said Matthew Graves, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, as quoted in a Department of Justice statement.
“After drugging them, he would strip them, sexually abuse them, and photograph them,” it added. “For 14 years, Raymond took advantage of his position of trust as a representative of the United States government,” said David Sundberg, an executive at the FBI’s Washington office, quoted in the note. In many of the recordings, he is seen touching and manipulating the bodies of the victims while they were unconscious and unable to give consent, according to court documents. Raymond deleted or attempted to delete photographs and videos as soon as he learned of the opening of an investigation against him. In November 2023, Raymond pleaded guilty to sexual abuse, abusive sexual contact, coercion and enticement, as well as transporting obscene material. In addition, he was sentenced to lifetime probation and to pay $260,000 in restitution to the victims. When he is released from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender.
