The president of the Brazilian Association of Airlines (Abear), Jurema Monteiro, believes that the release of resources from the National Civil Aviation Fund (Fnac) contributes to the economic sustainability of airlines, which have been facing a more challenging scenario since last year. Monteiro participated in the ceremony at the Planalto Palace that marked President Lula’s sanction of Bill No. 1,829/2019, which modernizes the General Tourism Law.
The new law also provides that Fnac resources may be used in initiatives aimed at producing sustainable aviation fuels, which “is very positive for the sector,” the executive highlighted. “Reducing CO2 emissions is one of the main goals of the air transport sector,” she added.
At the ceremony, the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, highlighted the broad collective construction that involved the federal government, deputies, senators and the tourism industry. For him, the law will help convert all of Brazil’s tourism potential into economic growth, income and inclusion.
“It also includes increasing air connectivity, with airlines being able to renew their fleet and expand the number of locations served so that more Brazilians and foreigners can fly,” he said.
The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, also highlighted the importance of the release of FNAC funds for the aviation sector. “This matter was approved so that we can, more than ever, have a strategic approach to tourism. The release of FNAC funds will strengthen Brazilian airlines,” he concluded.
