Chiara Petrolini has confessed to killing both newborns found buried in the garden of her home in Traversetolo, in the province of Parma. This was reported by Evening Courier according to which the 22-year-old also confirmed that she did it all by herself, without telling anyone [LEGGI ANCHE: Neonati sepolti in giardino: chi è Chiara Petrolini, la madre 22enne indagata. Dall’attività in parrocchia alla vacanza a New York].
On the occasion of the second infanticide, which occurred on August 7, the 22-year-old allegedly induced labor in her bathroom at home, after a gestation of about 40 weeks. No signs of violence were found on the newborn’s body, so it is assumed that the baby was left to die of starvation.
Petrolini locked it in a plastic bag buried in the garden of the villa where she lives with her family. The following evening, August 8, she went with her friends to an aperitif with tasting in a winery 500 meters from home. And on the 9th she left with her parents and younger brother for a vacation in New York. As if nothing had happened.
On August 9, however, the grandmother – left at home to look after the house and feed the dogs – noticed some loose earth in the garden. From there the shocking discovery of the buried newborn.
Genetic tests performed on the child’s body established that the mother was Petrolini and that the father was her ex-boyfriend, a peer from the area named Samuel.
The Carabinieri’s investigations into the girl’s electronic devices led to the discovery of the second body. The 22-year-old had in fact searched Google for information on “how to abort your second child”: the other little body was then found in the garden of the villa, whose burial seems to date back to about a year ago.
Genetic analyses are currently underway on this discovery by the RIS of Parma, while the forensic medical investigations have been entrusted to the Laboratory of Anthropology and Forensic Odontology of the University of Milan.
Petrolini is being investigated for voluntary homicide and concealment of a corpse. In recent weeks, before the second dead newborn was found, the Parma Public Prosecutor’s Office reportedly requested a precautionary measure for her, but the GIP rejected the request, not seeing any need for precautionary measures at that stage.
In light of the latest developments, it is not excluded that the situation may be re-evaluated. The 22-year-old is currently at liberty and has left her country with her family for several weeks.
Yesterday, Tuesday 17 September, the RIS returned to the garden of the villa for further surveys. According to the Ansa agency, in addition to the men of the Carabinieri scientific team, there were also an excavation expert and the Petrolini lawyer, Nicola Tria, who for the moment is maintaining total confidentiality on the matter.
