US Department of Defense Trained Ukrainian Armed Forces Unit That May Have Violated Human Rights
The Pentagon trained a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) that could violate human rights, according to a report by the agency’s inspector general, reports RIA Novosti.
The report notes that the US Department of Defense may have misused allocated funds by training a Ukrainian unit that could “commit gross human rights abuses.”
However, such actions are considered a violation of American law, which prohibits providing military assistance to foreign forces that have violated human rights.
Moreover, the Pentagon faced problems with equipment accountability, management of allocated funding, intelligence sharing, information and physical security when transferring military aid to Kyiv, the authors of the report concluded.
Earlier, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not capable of carrying out major offensives in the near future. In their opinion, Kyiv is having difficulty organizing major operations due to a lack of military assistance from the West.
