A number of experts specializing in innovation and urban mobility stressed the importance of having clear and specific regulations and laws for the unmanned aerial transport system, whether commercial and related to transporting goods, or air taxi related to transporting people, while emphasizing the achievement of safety and security in transportation and ensuring the reduction of noise levels, which can cause in the lives of city residents.
This came during a dialogue session held under the title: “Innovation in Urban Transport.. Will Drones Change Life in Cities?”, which was held at the conclusion of the third day of the 30th session of the World Conference and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems.
The session was attended by Khalid Al Awadhi, Director of Transport Systems Department at the Public Transport Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, and moderated by Donal Hodgins, Head of Sustainable Transport and Traffic Department, Vice President of Intelligent Transport Systems Ireland, Dr. Vassilis Agouridas, Senior Director of Innovation and Deployment, Eretico Europe, Belgium, Laure Glatron, Chief Business Development Officer, Chrysalion Mobility, Spain, Beth Kegel, Vice President, HNTB, USA, and Dr. Tongkarn Kayochalrmtong, President, ITS Thailand, Thailand.
Participants in the session agreed on the need to improve transportation and urban mobility in cities in general, as future statistics expect two-thirds of the world’s population to live in cities by 2050, and the importance of benefiting from the innovations being introduced to make it safer, more efficient and more sustainable, stressing the importance of finding solutions to reduce the negative impacts of using these means on citizens’ lives.
