The third edition of the “Digital Publishing Forum” organized by “Dubai Culture” in cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government was launched today at the Union Museum in Dubai with the participation of experts and specialists from various government and private entities.
Mohammed Al Habsi, Acting Director of Literature Department at Dubai Culture, stressed the importance of the forum, which this year is witnessing a significant expansion compared to previous years, as it focuses on key topics such as the relationship between digital publishing and cybersecurity, intellectual property, governance, and the impact of the digital economy on the publishing industry.
He explained in a statement to Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the forum that cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government contributed to organizing some sessions and workshops, which aim to shed light on the challenges and gaps in digital publishing in the UAE, and to differentiate between the concepts of digital publishing and electronic publishing.
Al Habsi pointed out that the forum seeks to provide practical recommendations that would support the development of digital publishing in the country, in line with Dubai and the UAE’s vision to become the capital of the digital and creative economy.
He said that the Digital Publishing Forum is an important bridge between intellectuals, publishers, and experts in the digital publishing industry. It aims to exchange ideas and experiences to apply the best global practices in this field and seeks to empower writers and authors and encourage them to adopt digital methods in disseminating knowledge and literary creativity.
He added that the forum comes at a time when the world is witnessing a remarkable development in digital platforms, such as e-books and audiobooks, which contributes to expanding the scope of access of literary publications to the public, and enhancing the publishing industry as part of the cultural and creative industries in the UAE.
Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, stressed the crucial role played by publishing forums in supporting Emirati writers and publishers, explaining that these forums provide ideal platforms for interacting with experts and specialists in the publishing industry, allowing for the exchange of ideas and experiences and exposure to the latest developments and innovations that enhance the quality of content and improve publishers’ businesses. He pointed out that publishing forums provide Emirati writers and publishers with the opportunity to connect with their peers from around the world, helping them gain new insights into the latest trends in the publishing industry and book distribution strategies.
He stressed the importance of integrating technological developments with authentic cultural values to ensure the sustainability of literature and cultural heritage in the UAE, stressing that digital publishing can play an important role in promoting Emirati culture in global markets, while ensuring the availability of traditional copies to the reader, pointing to the role of public libraries in digitizing heritage literature, which enhances access to this content through modern means.
He added that artificial intelligence technologies can enhance the spread of digital content by improving the quality and efficiency of the content, analyzing readers’ behavior and identifying their preferences, stressing that artificial intelligence can contribute to developing customized strategies for digital publishing, which enhances the effectiveness of reaching the audience and meeting their requirements.
The forum’s agenda includes a series of discussion sessions and workshops aimed at exploring the most prominent challenges and opportunities in this field.
