Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Monday that Russia is “militarily invincible” in Ukraine, during a visit by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Central Asia.
“The truth is that Russia is militarily invincible,” Tokayev was quoted as saying by the presidency, in a surprise remark by the adviser on the eve of a summit of the five Central Asian heads of state.
Kazakhstan, the largest power in Central Asia, shares a 7,500-kilometre border with Russia.
“The people of Kazakhstan are really sympathetic to the Ukrainian people,” he added.
Tokayev stressed that “the possibility of peace still exists,” calling for “support for the peace plans proposed by China and Brazil.”
