According to meteorologists, Yagi, which arrived in Vietnam on Saturday, is the strongest typhoon to hit the northern parts of the country in 30 years. The storm has taken away bridges, torn roofs off buildings and damaged factories. The wind speed has been up to 44 meters per second.
The northern part of the country has suffered from severe flooding as a result of the storm, and several communities have been partially submerged. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, crops are estimated to have been destroyed in an area of more than 250,000 hectares. In addition, huge numbers of farm animals, especially poultry, have died.
