CDMX.- After Usher broke audience records with his Super Bowl show this year, it will now be rapper Kendrick Lamar’s turn to impress people at the 2025 sporting event.
The rapper, responsible for hits such as “Humble” and “Not Like Us,” has been confirmed as the halftime artist for Super Bowl LIX, produced by Apple Music for 2025, the NFL announced in a statement.
“Rap music remains the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why. They made the right choice,” Lamar said in the letter released to media on Sunday. This will be Lamar’s second appearance at the event, after performing alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show.
“Kendrick Lamar is truly a one-of-a-kind artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision,” said Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Beyoncé’s husband and founder of Roc Nation, the company in charge of producing the show, in the same statement.
“Kendrick has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music and his impact will be felt for years to come.” Earlier this year, Lamar engaged in a social media feud with Drake, with messages and innuendos between the two going viral. The feud resulted in the song “Not Like Us,” one of the rapper’s most recent hits. “Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar. Time and time again, Kendrick has demonstrated his unique ability to create moments that resonate, redefine and ultimately shake the foundation of hip-hop,” added Seth Dudowsky, NFL music director. “We’re excited to collaborate with Kendrick, Roc Nation and Apple Music to deliver another unforgettable halftime show.” Lamar is currently regarded as the most important and award-winning rapper internationally, with 17 Grammy Awards. In 2018, he won a Pulitzer Prize for his album Damn, released the previous year. He is the first non-classical or jazz musician to receive this prestigious award. Super Bowl LIX is scheduled to take place on February 9, 2025 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
