The tourism sector in the UAE continues to record exceptional numbers in terms of international tourists and hotel reservations, in line with the National Tourism Strategy, which aims to attract tourism investments worth AED 100 billion and increase the sector’s contribution to the GDP to AED 450 billion by 2031.
The UAE is a major player in the tourism industry at the regional and global levels, having become a sustainable destination for tourists from all over the world, thanks to its high-level hotel facilities, diverse tourist and heritage destinations, in addition to its security, stability, strategic location, and the various events it hosts and organizes, thus maintaining its regional and global leadership as a distinguished tourist destination that meets the tastes of all tourists.
Thanks to the vision and directives of its wise leadership, the country continues to strengthen tourism relations with various countries of the world in all tourism fields and sectors, exchange the best experiences and practices, and build bridges of partnership with international tourism organizations, in a way that enhances the growth and sustainability of the national economy, supports its competitiveness regionally and globally, and consolidates the UAE’s position on the global tourism map.
International tourism institutions expect that UAE tourism will achieve exceptional growth and record numbers during the current year, after it succeeded in developing its tourism policy and infrastructure in accordance with the best international practices, supported by the forward-looking vision of the wise leadership towards developing and growing sustainable tourism policies and strategies for this vital sector, as it is a major contributor to enhancing the growth of the national economy and supporting its competitiveness, and thus consolidating the country’s position as a leading global tourism destination.
The tourism sector contributed 11.7% of the country’s GDP in 2023, amounting to AED 220 billion, while its contribution is expected to rise by 12% of the GDP, equivalent to AED 236 billion, during the current year, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council.
The Council expects the travel and tourism sector to contribute about AED 275.2 billion to the UAE’s GDP by 2034, thanks to the country’s strong tourism and airport infrastructure, diverse tourist and cultural destinations, and beaches, mountains, entertainment and cultural destinations it offers tourists, which provides them with many options in one place.
Official data indicates a strong recovery in the tourism sector since the beginning of this year, as the Emirate of Dubai received about 10.62 million tourists during the first seven months of the year, an 8% growth compared to 9.83 million tourists during the same period last year, while the average hotel occupancy in the emirate reached 77%, and the number of rooms booked during the same period exceeded 24.51 million rooms.
The number of guests in Abu Dhabi hotels rose to more than 2.87 million guests with revenues of AED 3.6 billion during the first half of this year, a growth of 19.5% compared to about 2.4 million guests with revenues of AED 3 billion during the same period last year.
The achievements of the UAE tourism sector confirm the efficiency of the sustainable tourism policies adopted by the country, and the success of the initiatives, campaigns and exhibitions that serve and enhance the sector on an ongoing basis, in addition to the strength of the national tourism product and the country’s leading services, attractive tourist destinations and advanced tourism infrastructure.
The UAE continues its efforts to develop and grow the tourism sector, and adopt policies and strategies that serve to achieve this goal, especially the National Tourism Strategy 2031, which plays a vital role in supporting the sustainability and competitiveness of Emirati tourism by the next decade. This strategy includes a set of national targets, including raising the UAE’s position to become the world’s first as the best tourism identity, and attracting 40 million guests, in line with the “We the Emirates 2031” vision.
