Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said on social media that the blackout that hit the country on the 6thth fair (30.Aug.2024) was a “criminal attack”. According to the government’s Minister of Communication, Freddy Ñáñez, the opposition was responsible for the failure of the energy system that affected 20 of the country’s 24 states.
“As always, I am on the side of the people and on the front line of the battle, facing this criminal attack on the National Electric System. I have said it before and I repeat: Calm and Sanity, Nerves of Steel! Desperate fascism attacks the people, but together we will overcome this new onslaught. We will always win!”Maduro said in a post on Instagram.
In interview to the state channel VTVFreddy Ñáñez said that technical teams were already in action to restore electricity service. In addition, he accused opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia of fomenting a coup plot against the government.
“People like this cannot be considered Venezuelans, people who, knowing what an express military intervention implies, repeatedly ask for it. No one will take away the peace and tranquility of the Venezuelans.”declared Ñáñez.
