Mexico City.- The local Congress approved delaying the entry into force of Law 3 of 3 in Mexico City, which means that violent offenders and those who are in breach of alimony will be able to hold public office until 2030.
Under the pretext of carrying out a constitutional reform to article 11, regarding shelters for abused women and girls, Congress modified the constitutional article regarding Law 3 of 3.
This is a conquest that was endorsed in Donceles, on November 23, 2023, and that was celebrated and approved unanimously by all parliamentary forces. The reform modified article 10 of the Constitution, in its section C, concerning the eligibility requirements for elected positions to specify that aggressors cannot be public officials.
“Have a final sentence for the intentional commission of crimes against life and physical integrity; against sexual freedom and security, normal psychosexual development; B) Have a final sentence for crimes of family violence, equivalent or domestic family violence, violation of sexual privacy; for political violence against women based on gender, in any of its forms,” details the reform.
It excludes from public service those who are registered in the registry of Delinquent Alimony Debtors. The reform approved today contains a reform to the third transitional article so that the provisions contained in article 10, section C, come into force on January 1, 2030, instead of August 31, 2024. Despite the fact that there was a reservation ready from the deputy Polimnia Sierra, pressure prevented it from being presented in the Plenary and the opinion was not modified.
