The long wait for football fans is over. Serie A is finally back. And it does so with an important new feature: from this year, the top Italian football championship will be called Serie A Enilive.
By virtue of an agreement with Lega Serie A, in fact, the Eni company dedicated to mobility products and services will be the title sponsor of the tournament for the next three seasons, until 2027.
The claim chosen to accompany the fans is “Serie A Enilive: moves the passion that unites us”.
The aim of the sponsorship is to make the new Enilive brand known to an ever wider audience, in addition to the services and products – progressively more decarbonised – that the energy company makes available in its network of approximately 4,000 service stations in Italy.
But let’s find out in more detail who the new title sponsor of Serie A is.
Enilive is the Eni company dedicated to biorefining, biomethane production, smart mobility solutions and the marketing and distribution of all energy vectors for mobility.
We are talking about the world leader in the production of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) biofuels derived from 100% renewable raw materials. Eni believes that the decarbonisation of the transport sector can be successfully achieved if all available energy solutions and vectors are used, according to the principle of technological neutrality. And in this sense, HVOs play a fundamental role because they can make an immediate contribution to the reduction of emissions (calculated along the entire value chain) of the transport sector.
Globally, estimates predict that demand for hydrogenated biofuels will increase by 65% over the period 2024-2028.
These biofuels contribute to decarbonizing road, air, rail, marine mobility and also the activity of generators for the production of electricity. In the next three years, the generators that support the audiovisual production curated and managed by Lega Serie A for the championship matches will also be powered by Enilive biofuels, thus promoting a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
In Italy, Enilive HVOs are produced in the Italian biorefineries of Venice and Gela. The one in Venice, in Porto Marghera, is the first example in the world of conversion of an oil refinery into a biorefinery for the production of hydrogenated biofuels obtained from biogenic raw materials.
Both sites are currently powered by approximately 98% waste raw materials, such as used cooking oils, animal fats and residues from the agri-food industry (palm oil has been excluded since the end of 2022): from these substances we obtain biofuels, HVO diesel, bio-LPG, bio-jet and bio-naphtha destined for the chemical supply chain.
Enilive also produces HVO in the US biorefinery of St. Bernard Renewables LLC (a 50% joint venture) in Chalmette, Louisiana. From 2026, they will also be produced in Livorno, where a further transformation of an Eni refinery is underway. In addition, the company has confirmed its decision to invest in the construction of a biorefinery in Malaysia and is evaluating a new biorefinery in South Korea. By 2030, Enilive plans to increase its biorefining capacity to over 5 million tonnes per year.
There are over 5,000 Enilive Stations in Europe, 4,000 of which are in Italy. Every day, these stations welcome more than one and a half million people. They come not only to fill up but also to enjoy a wide range of services. In fact, Enilive Stations are increasingly conceived as real mobility hubs.
In addition to refueling with fuels such as HVOlution diesel, bio-LPG, biomethane, as well as electric and hydrogen recharging, at these stations it is possible, for example, to pay a postal bill, withdraw money, collect parcels from couriers, do quality shopping in the Emporiums or treat yourself to a moment of refreshment in an Eni Café (there are 1,200 in Europe, of which 600 in Italy) or in the ALT Stazione del Gusto store, the Enilive catering format in collaboration with Accademia Niko Romito. Furthermore, some Enilive Stations are becoming Enjoy Points where you can start and end your shared vehicle rentals.
As part of its partnership with Lega Serie A, Enilive plans to offer its customers registered with the “Enilive Insieme” loyalty program thousands of prizes and exclusive experiences, including a competition that, starting from July 29, is offering over 10,000 VIP Experience tickets to all Italian stadiums that will host Serie A Enilive 2024/2025 matches.
“For Enilive, being the title sponsor of Serie A is a great opportunity,” explains Giuseppe Ricci, General Manager of Energy Evolution at Eni. “Serie A reaches all Italians and we want to reach all Italians with the Enilive brand: over 1.5 million customers who enter our service stations every day. With this agreement we want to get even closer to people to tell them about the energy transition and offer everyone our products, solutions and services for more sustainable mobility.”
Stefano Ballista, CEO of Enilive, points out that the company was born with the aim of “transforming mobility, which is a central sector of the energy transition”. “We have recognized in Lega Serie A – Ballista underlines – the ideal partner to communicate this path of great transformation already started and that we will continue to carry forward in the future. Serie A has extraordinary characteristics, it is in contact with people on a daily basis, throughout Italy, every day, because the matches last 90 minutes but the passion for football extends well beyond. We have started this partnership because Enilive is close to people, from today in an even more decisive and effective way, and because it will allow the company to be ever closer to Italians, and to make Enilive known to the millions of customers who frequent our network of service stations every day. Because the road belongs to everyone just as football belongs to everyone”.
