FSB declassified documents on Hitler’s plans to use atomic bomb against USSR
The Russian FSB has published documents according to which the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, planned to use an atomic bomb against the USSR in June 1945. The Russian special service has published photocopies of documents in the case of a former Nazi official, one of the closest associates of the Minister of Propaganda of the Third Reich, Gruppenführer Werner Wächter, who testified to Soviet investigators about the development of new types of weapons in Nazi Germany, in particular the atomic bomb.
From his words it follows that nuclear strikes were to be carried out using long-range ballistic missiles “V-2” on the industrial centers of the USSR in the Urals and Central Asia. During interrogation in October 1945, Wächter explained that he himself first learned about the development of atomic weapons from one of the engineers in 1943.
He told me that German scientists had succeeded in splitting the atomic nucleus and that specialist engineers were developing methods and techniques for the practical use of atomic energy as a means of warfare.
At the same time, according to Wechter, similar work was being carried out in Great Britain and the USA, but Germany was allegedly ahead by about a year and a half.
In Germany, practical work was carried out on the preparation and use of an atomic bomb
In his testimony, Wächter referred to to the editor of the secret government bulletin, Hans Hertel, who informed him that in 1945 the German Ministry of Armaments was conducting practical work on the preparation and use of an atomic bomb. Thus, the country had aircraft of the latest design in its arsenal, which were to be armed with an atomic bomb. It was these that were planned to be used to attack the industrial centers of the Soviet Union.
German scientists discovered nuclear fission in uranium in the late 1930s. This was an important step in the development of atomic physics. Under Hitler, Germany was the first country to begin a project to create an atomic bomb.
The planes themselves were based at the airfield in Celle. Fighters were to be launched into the air with them to provide protection during the flight. Although Wächter had no official data on the timing of the bomb drops, he already assumed that it would happen soon.
Wechter determined the timing of the strike based on the data he received.
In addition, Wächter, in one of his conversations with the State Secretary of the Propaganda Ministry, Dr. Naumann, stated that “everything should soon change for the better.” He also referred to Hitler’s words, spoken in a narrow circle of trusted people: “May God forgive me the last 14 days of the war.”

The plans to strike at the USSR were also indirectly indicated by the words of the de facto Deputy Minister of Armaments Karl-Otto Saur. He secretly told Wächter about the work being done to manufacture the latest weapons, which they planned to use at the front. In the spring of that year, Professor Schumann, an employee of the German Research Council, revealed information that the secret weapon would be able to change the course of the war in Germany’s favor, which was also confirmed by the Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels.
June, according to Wächter, was the most favorable month for Hitler to use the new weapon. Goebbels was instructed to prepare a special horoscope for the Fuhrer for this month.
I believe that behind this instruction there was concealed intensive preparation for the use of a secret weapon, calculated for June 1945.
The FSB Public Relations Center indicated that Hitler’s plans were destroyed in May 1945, when the Red Army took Berlin and Nazi Germany capitulated.
