A member of the yacht’s crew had not closed a side door of the ship when the sea was calm. When the waves increased due to a change in the weather, water entered the ship and filled it. Footage on social media shows the ship sinking into the sea piece by piece.
According to the portal, no members of the crew or passengers were injured in the incident. There were five tourists and five crew members on board. All of them were brought to safety in time by nearby boats. The coast guard is now planning to examine the wreck of the yacht in Paleokaravo Bay.
The case is reminiscent of a shipping accident in Italy a few years ago. Most recently, a yacht on its way from Portugal to Greece was attacked by orcas.
