F1 Dutch GP 2024 in Zandvoort
The Zandvoort circuit, located along the North Sea coast in the Netherlands, is one of the most beautiful and challenging circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. Nestled among the sand dunes near the town of Zandvoort, it hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1952 and, for several decades, it was a regular fixture in the championship. But after the 1985, the circuit has been excluded from the F1 calendar, until 2021when, after a long wait, the Dutch Grand Prix officially returned with a Renewed circuit It is up to date.
The Zandvoort track is long 4.3 km and is loved by pilots for its technical curves and for the changes in altitude that make every lap a challenge. One of the most famous curves is the Tarzan Bushthe first corner after the start straight, which offers excellent overtaking opportunities. Then there is the Hugenholtzbochta banked sharp bend that requires great precision and control, and the Scheivlaka fast, downhill curve that tests the drivers’ courage.
A unique feature of Zandvoort is the presence of two elevated curvesthe Hugenholtzbocht and the Arie Luyendyk Bocht, which give an almost “American” flavour to the circuit, recalling the curves of the oval tracksbut integrated into a European context of road circuit. The return of Formula 1 to Zandvoort coincided with the rise of Max Verstappenwhich has helped transform the Dutch Grand Prix into one of the most anticipated and appreciated events by fans. The atmosphere is electric, with thousands of Dutch fans, often dressed in orangewho crowd the stands to support their idol, who also won all three editions that took place from 2021 to 2023.
Verstappen holds the record for the fastest qualifying lap at Zandvoort with 1’08″885 in 2021, while Hamilton holds the record for the fastest race lap with 1’11″097.
